Right from the start, a magnificent white Burgundy:

2023 White Burgundy dry premium wine

Quality wine from Baden, 13.5% ABV. The alluring aroma heralds the wine's beginning maturity. The bouquet is highly complex, predominantly green-yellow. Nuances of nuts and toasted pine nuts, along with hints of quince, mirabelle plum, curry, and sesame, characterize the yellow. The aroma becomes greener with notes of green twigs and ivy. Mineral influences are clearly perceptible, as is black radish. Both nuances add vibrancy to the bouquet. On the palate, we experience an exciting interplay of piquancy and maturity. The wine presents itself as cool and fresh in its fruitiness; on the palate, it is compact and full-bodied, substantial and concentrated. Initially, green notes of citrus and green leaves predominate. These are followed by delicately bitter nuances of kumquat and orange peel. It is demanding, invigorating, and eager to move forward. A fluid and uncomplicated wine. Juicy without being heavy, spicy without being overpowering. Fruity nuances in a delicate, light-toned dose. A silvery-bright explosion of flavor that elicits a constant 'ooh' and 'aah' from us. Pure drinking pleasure!

It's certainly no exaggeration to say that this wine estate is one of the most innovative in Baden. What Annika and Michael Weber have accomplished in the last 15 years is truly remarkable. Their parents, Margot and Werner Weber, laid the foundation. Not far from the picturesque baroque town of Ettenheim, on the edge of the Black Forest, they built a small estate with an attached wine tavern, situated halfway up a hill overlooking the Rhine plain. It was a success. The winery grew, and the wine tavern became a restaurant. Business steadily improved. Eventually, everything became too cramped. Moreover, the generational transition was imminent. A huge project was undertaken. Today, the wine estate is among the most modern in Baden, combining craftsmanship with passion.

Transparent production

Weber Winery, Estate Manager Michael WeberDriving up the road past the estate's own walnut orchard (the largest in southern Germany), you're not quite sure what to expect. Then, with every yard, you see a little more of the winery. Lots of glass, straight lines, clear contours, inviting openness in the architecture, fascinating views into the various production areas of the wine cellar as well as into the diverse natural surroundings. A completely transparent production process – from grape to bottling. All processing steps, whether pressing, fermentation, aging, or bottling, take place on a single level. Winemaking couldn't be gentler.

What isn't immediately visible from the outside are the wine cellar and bottle storage, which extend up to 50 yards deep into the hillside. The cellars are covered with up to seven yards of earth. Perfect conditions for utilizing the natural warmth and coolness of the loess soil for wine production. This eliminates the need for cooling or heating. The exceptional tasting room, with its unique wine presentation in suspended wine racks, invites you to a tasting. Natural colors and materials like oak and loess, combined with glass and steel, reference traditional winemaking. A staircase in the sales area leads to the large roof terrace, which offers a truly memorable experience. Nestled in nature, with vineyards on one side and walnut trees on the other, it boasts breathtaking views across the Rhine plain to the Vosges Mountains in France.

The restaurant

Wine Estate Weber's RestaurantWine Estate Weber, restaurant terrace with magnificent views

The restaurant, located directly opposite the winery, has been run by Michael Weber's sister, Stefanie Weber, since 2004. Whether for a leisurely lunch, a delicious dinner, or a glass of wine on the panoramic terrace, you'll feel right at home in this family-run establishment. Here, paired with the estate's own wines, you can experience the delicious taste of regional and seasonal ingredients! The unique location and panoramic terrace offer breathtaking views across the Rhine plain, to Haut-Koenigsbourg Castle in Alsace/France, all the way to the Vosges Mountains and Europa-Park. On a clear day, you can even see the Strasbourg Cathedral. Families are warmly welcomed. There's a special children's menu with children's dishes and place settings. The playground is just a few meters from the restaurant and the panoramic terrace.

There's so much to talk about – but always a glass of wine in between…

2024 Rosé Estate Wine, dry

Quality wine from Baden, 12% ABV. The color of this rosé wine is like a sunset and a joy to behold. Freshness, fruitiness, and mineral vibrancy are its hallmarks. The aromas range from strawberry and raspberry to red gooseberry. You can hardly wait to drink it. And then it's as if someone has turned on the jukebox. Rock and roll, dancing in every room. It's party time. Not a quiet moment. You simply let yourself be swept away by this youthful energy. Even the chaos here is orderly. Here, herbal notes like nettle and ivy harmonize with orange peel and rosehip. All of this is held together by a subtle, hovering sweetness. Fun until dawn. What's for breakfast? Perhaps Parma ham with melon and a Pinot Noir Rosé, true to the motto: Start where you left off.

The wines are divided into three categories.

  • 1-liter bottle with a white label: No frills, straightforward, pure drinking pleasure. Straightforward!
  • Estate wines: light grey label. Wines for just about every occasion. Because every occasion deserves a good glass of wine!
  • Premium wines: darker grey label. These wines are special! Especially delicious, with maturing potential, and intended for special moments.

2024 Sauvignon blanc dry estate wine

Quality wine from Baden, 12%. Wow, what an aroma! An adventure for the nose. The desire to smell it never ends. Floral, fruity, and spicy aromas in perfect harmony. Like a mosaic, the individual pieces come together to form a perfect picture. Here, nettle complements coriander, green bell pepper lychee, smoke kumquat, and anise fresh pear. What a gateway to flavor! Now, a wonderful grapefruit and mango note joins the flavor profile, adding freshness and vibrancy. This directness and openness are what define this wine. Its spontaneity. Always good for a surprise. A dance of aromas. A veritable firework display of flavors. Bright, luminous, almost silvery tones—all that's missing are the firecrackers and the oohs and aahs of the enthusiastic onlookers.

2024 Pinot Gris Estate Wine Dry

Quality wine from Baden. 12% ABV. Even the aroma reveals the wine's potential. A breeze rustles through a field of grain. Notes of fresh cereals and nutty components rise to the nose. Clear aromatics. Beautifully balanced nuances of pear, quince, grapefruit, and banana delight the sense of smell. A trio of rosehip, hay, and the scent of undergrowth then reins the wine in slightly, providing a moment of calm before unleashing its full power on the palate. This wine doesn't knock quietly and shyly, asking for entry. It commands the room, filling it to the ceiling. Pure presence. Straightforward from beginning to end. No compromises. In perfect balance, one tastes a slightly peppery spiciness, fruity bitter notes of quince and rosehip, and a pleasing fruity sweetness of pear, banana, and orange peel. Finally, subtly spicy notes of ginger and coriander, along with a hint of vanilla, provide the finishing touch. An evening with this wine is truly enjoyable.

Modern, fresh, straightforward

Photo by: Thomas SattlerLooking at the wine labels, visiting the award-winning wine shop, and tasting the Webers' wines, one gets the feeling: everything is perfectly coordinated. Harmonious from start to finish. Unpretentious and straightforward. "Our wines are the liquid result of all our work," says Michael Weber. "They aren't accidental products, but clearly bear our signature and thus convey a part of ourselves." The wine style is modern and contemporary. Enjoyable. Charming and relaxed. Always individual and never smoothed over to conform to market demands. Pure transparency. This is how the varietal character shines through. This approach to winemaking also demonstrates self-confidence and trust in their craftsmanship. With these thoughts in mind, the purpose of the winery's straightforward architecture becomes clear.

2023 Chardonnay dry premium wine

Quality wine from Baden, 13.5% ABV. Even the aroma surprises with its enormous density and powerful volume. Peanut, sesame, anise, flint, brioche – a wild mix. Highly interesting and invigorating. These are joined by delicate smoky and salty aromas combined with quince and banana. The nose is endless. Multifaceted yet balanced. On the palate, it impresses with a wonderful interplay of acidity and fresh citrus and grapefruit notes. These keep the wine constantly suspended. Enormously dense and full-bodied, it goes from zero to sixty in no time. It immediately fills the entire mouth and demands attention. This wine is anything but boring. It wants to be conquered. The balance between youthful freshness and emerging maturity is wonderful. Its twists and turns are surprising, its finish almost endless. You savor it like watching a great film. A wine with its own unique character and a special charisma. A pleasure for anyone who opens themselves up to it.

The former hikers' rest stop has been transformed into an event venue. During the day, hikers, cyclists, and all other visitors can enjoy local snacks and refreshments, and in the evening, it becomes a wine bar nestled among the vineyards. The venue can accommodate events for up to 45 people. Its exceptional location with spectacular views provides the perfect setting for special occasions.

2023 Syrah, aged in barrique, dry, premium wine

Quality wine from Baden, 13.5% ABV. A soft, warm aroma greets us. It's like falling into a bed of perfectly ripe blackberries, blueberries, and sloes. This depth is incredible. It seems to disappear into infinity. Only late do spicy notes of black pepper, juniper, and soy sauce rise to the nose. Right at the end, it bids farewell with a wonderful hint of fresh pine needles and a delicate smoky note. Then the taste: Wow! What power! Here, the wine shows that it can be more than just soft, warm, and smooth. It's immediately immersive. No detours. Focused on the essentials. Deep inside a bubbling volcano. Everything wants to come to light. Spicy notes of bay leaf, eucalyptus, and black pepper make the fruit components of plum and black cherry shine. A heavyweight on a tightrope. Power and lightness in wonderful balance. Rarely has the combination of paprika, boxwood, mocha, wood smoke, blackberries, black cherry, and cassis been seen in such harmony. A wine like a complete meal. Even aromas of violets and wild roses find their place at the end. Its finish is almost endless. What an adventure! More of this, please!
