Which I pleased very much, and which I have rated accordingly:

90 bonvinitas points: 2023 Wien 2

70% Zweigelt and 30% Pinot Noir, dry, wine from Austria, Vienna region, 14%, Wine estate Pfaffl: Starts off rather gently on the nose with notes of morello cherry’s compote, but it starts vehement on the tongue: juicy body with a real temperament, slightly peppery; then increases again in the finish with notes of mocha with fine tannins. Nice with beef roulades, braised beef or venison goulash.

93 bonvinitas points: 2022 OLD Reserve

St. Laurent dry, quality wine Lower Austria, 13.5%, Wine estate Pfaffl: Deep fragrance with notes of sea buckthorn, elderberry juice, tobacco, oak wood and hints of chocolate and tar each; on the palate a long body with good structure and another small tar greeting; full-bodied, very "grown-up, confident" length with subtle notes of mocha and black pepper. It's a lot of fun with game, roast beef with onions or lamb chops.

94 bonvinitas points: 2022 Cuvée PRIVAT

dry, quality wine Lower Austria, 14%, Wine estate Pfaffl: Deep aroma with hints of blueberry jam, juniper, tobacco, toast; full-bodied with a lot of structure, subtle glaze, slightly peppery; excellent, almost bacchanal finish with notes of mocha and a hint of tar. Nice with a pepper steak, game or leg of lamb or simply to chat and enjoy.

The R&A Pfaffl wine estate

in Stetten in the Weinviertel in Lower Austria, not far north of Vienna

The impressive 150-hectare winery has been now running by Roman Josef Pfaffl and his sister Heidemarie Fischer. Their parents, Roman and Heidi Pfaffl, are still very active, who have led the estate from the smallest beginnings to the heights. A very important, completely unexpected milestone and key point of the successes was the title "Falstaff Winemaker of the Year" in 1996.

The focus is on Gruener Veltliner, Riesling, Chardonnay, Zweigelt and St. Laurent. The vineyards are located in ten different municipalities and even reach till Vienna. This dispersion results in a variety of soils and microclimates that can be used skilfully. The flagship variety Grüner Veltliner is even produced in six variants. Due to the considerable vineyard ownership, the wines are producer bottlings from their own vineyards. In 2016, the US magazine "Wine Enthusiast" named Pfaffl "European Winery of the Year". That went to Austria for the first time.
