2020 Blaufraenkisch Reserve trocken
Mittelburgenland DAC, 14.5% alcohol from the wine estate Hundsdorfer in Neckenmarkt: Deep, intense scent with hints of cranberry jam, roasted almonds, nougat, with a hint of liquorice and vanilla; on the palate a finely ripened, almost sensual fruit and power rising from the depths with a touch of charcoal in the background; fruit and power are continuing in the finish, where the roasted almonds also reappear, discreetly accompanied by a little pepper. Combines well with roast, leg of lamb or even wild hare.
Blaufraenkisch is the second most important red wine variety in Austria after Zweigelt and grows mainly in the Burgenland. DAC, Districtus Austriae Controllatus, stands for precisely defined quality wine-growing regions with controlled wines.
Canis
The 20 hectar Hundsdorfer redwine estate
is located in Burgenland, Austria, on the border with Hungary. It is managed by Luka Hundsdorfer, who also acts as cellar master. He is advised on marketing by his brother Anton, who is also a trained oenologist. Almost only red vines are grown, which grow on mica schist, shell limestone and loamy loess soils. Many of the fine wines mature in barriques.
