They feel like the cradle of viticulture, the Georgians, as corresponding archaeological finds date back 8,000 years. Even today, in many wineries, the wine is aged in the traditional Qvevris, those large clay amphoraes, with around 2,000 qt/US, which are buried in the ground up to their necks. The vineyard area occupies about 136,000 acres, about half of Bordeaux. The small country between the Caucasus and the Black Sea is nearly as great as Scotland. One of the most important grape varieties is the red Saperavi.

Noble maturity - rated with 93 bonvinitas points:

The red grape Saperavi

2017 Saperavi Superior Grand Selection Georgia Kakheti red dry, 14%, 12 months barrique, Dugladze Winery: Deep fragrance with notes of pumice stone, chocolate biscuits, rum pot, rosemary; on the tongue a noble maturity that spreads slowly but inexorably, and from which the mineral notes that are reminiscent of pumice stone rise again, subtly peppery; harmonious finish with hints of peppernuts. A noble drop, somewhat idiosyncratic, which makes it interesting and is gladly conceded. Nice with braised beef or braised beef "Rhineland style" and also with cigars.

The winery on the outskirts of the capital Tbilisi was founded in 2004 by the Dugladze brothers on roots of the former large kolkhoz winery in Soviet times. Kakheti is the province in the very southeast of the country, where most of the viticulture is located.
