170 members of the VDP, the world’s oldest association of wine estates committed to excellence in wines, presented their latest wines to 3000 visitors from wine trade specialists and journalists on April 29 and 30.
The white wines were predominated by the Riesling varietal, followed by Pinot Blanc and Silvaner. The 2011 vintage is extremely accessible, despite its youthfulness. The white wines are bright and open, tantalizing with vibrant varietal bouquets. Complex structures are supported by ample acid which is well integrated with the wines. The vintage is full-bodied, yet delicate, and very drinkable with a very promising future.
The Pinot Noir and other red wines had no easy time in 2010. Bunch rot at harvest time greatly reduced yield and depleted both body and color. The vintage tends to be light, expressing a fine elegance. The 2011 red wines promise to be elaborate and full-bodied, perfectly in step with the trend toward the individuality much desired in wines today.
